Poetry - Hope & Change
Written by Babatunde Oyateru
Tuesday, 03 November 2009 20:36

The clouds parted her thighs,
And the sun sent her blessings.
It was another Nigerian morning.

She could curse the ground and wait,
But that would be tradition;
This morning would be different.
Hope could only run so far without a drink.

So she makes her mix
And casts a wary eye for her flock.

It rolls off her face to the ground,
And quietly she wonders if the earth
Knows the difference between sweat and a tear.
